Across Far North Queensland, TRACQS works alongside participants and communities to create opportunities for employment, training and sustainable career pathways. Through locally driven initiatives, TRACQS supports people to build their capabilities, contribute to their communities, and work towards their personal and professional goals.

Over the past five months, TRACQS has supported 16 participants into employment opportunities across a range of activities and initiatives. Along the way, participants have gained valuable work experience, developed practical skills, and taken positive steps towards employment.

From landscaping and maintenance to leathercraft, food preparation, and coffin making, participants have strengthened workplace skills while making a meaningful contribution to their local communities.

Maintaining and improving local communities

Our landscaping and maintenance teams had a particularly busy period thanks to a late wet season, supporting projects across Kuranda, Mt Molloy, Dimbulah, and Chillagoe. Working alongside supervisors, participants have helped maintain parks and community spaces, supported local council initiatives, and assisted with cyclone preparation activities.

These projects have provided opportunities to develop practical skills in machinery operation, grounds maintenance, teamwork, workplace safety, and community service, while making a visible difference in local communities.

Developing craftsmanship and business skills

Our leathercrafting team has continued to refine their skills in planning, cutting, sewing, tooling, dyeing, and finishing. Their work has resulted in a range of handcrafted products, including bags, wallets, phone cases, and key tags.

Beyond developing technical skills, participants have also gained valuable retail experience. Products created by the team have been showcased and sold through the TRACQS retail store at the Kuranda Markets, providing hands-on exposure to customer service, retail presentation, cash handling, upselling, and point-of-sale systems.

Making a meaningful difference

The Coffin Making team has thrived under the guidance of their supervisors, producing customised coffins that are donated to families in need throughout TRACQS communities.

From cutting and shaping timber through to sanding, painting, lining, and installing hardware, participants have developed practical trade skills while contributing to a project that provides meaningful and culturally respectful support to local families.
