At TRACQS, we know that practical skills can make a real difference, especially for people living in remote and regional communities. Through our RAES Participation Options, we support participants to build confidence, independence and pathways towards employment. One of our most valued options is the Driving Program, which helps participants become road ready and take meaningful steps towards gaining their driver’s licence.

For many people in remote and regional communities, learning to drive is about much more than getting from A to B. It can open doors to employment, make it easier to attend training and appointments, and provide a greater sense of freedom and independence. Having a licence can be a genuine turning point, and that’s why this program is such an important part of the support we offer.

Building a practical pathway

The Driving Program offers participants up to 30 hours of driving lessons with our experienced and friendly instructor, Chris. Lessons are designed to be practical, confidence-building and focused on real-life driving, not just passing the test.

Participants work through key skills step by step, from tricky manoeuvres to building confidence in different driving conditions. This includes early morning, evening and night driving, which are essential requirements when working towards a Queensland Provisional Licence.

Importantly, the program creates a safe and encouraging space where participants can learn at their own pace, ask questions and celebrate progress along the way. Every lesson is another step forward.

Meet Shirleen

Shirleen is currently taking part in the Driving Program with TRACQS and is making steady progress as she works towards gaining her driver’s licence. Like many participants, she is building her skills step by step, developing confidence behind the wheel and learning to manage a range of driving conditions.

Through regular lessons with driving instructor Chris, Shirleen has been working on key skills including U-turns, hill starts and safe vehicle control. Each session helps her feel more comfortable and capable on the road, with lessons designed to reflect real-life driving rather than just test conditions.

Shirleen recently shared her experience of the program:

“My name is Shirleen, I’m currently a participant of the TRACQS Driving Program. Today I just finished 3 U-turns and a number of hill starts with Chris. He makes it fun! I’m really enjoying this opportunity. Thank you TRACQS.”

We’re so happy to see Shirleen growing in confidence, staying positive, and putting in the work to achieve her licence. Gaining her licence will not only give her more freedom, but also open up greater opportunities for employment.

This is what TRACQS is all about. Showing up with practical, real-world support that helps people build confidence, independence and momentum towards work. We’re proud of the progress Shirleen is making, and grateful for the steady guidance and encouragement Chris brings to every lesson.
