Meet Sprout Juice and Coffee Bar Proprietor Dei (left) and TRACQS CDP Participant Jonah (right), who dish up an awesome range of home-cooked meals and exceptional coffee here in the heart of Kuranda.

Dei who is familiar with the services and support available through TRACQS contacted us last year to request assistance from our recruitment team to fill a vacancy for a Cook. At the time, Jonah who is a participant with TRACQS for the Community Development Program (CDP) had informed the team that he was keen for a role in hospitality as he had previous experience in the industry.

Our team at TRACQS worked closely with Jonah to tailor and create a Resume that would match the requirements suited for a hospitality role, and then referred Jonah for the vacant position. Jonah’s interview went well, and soon after was offered the role and commenced employment with Sprout Juice and Coffee Bar nine months ago.

Due to the onset of COVID-19, which introduced strict social distancing measures and restrictions to the operation of businesses in the community, Jonah was concerned for his family and his hours as a result were impacted.

TRACQS continued to provide advice on allowable breaks and provided Dei with a TRACQS Employer Pack which including information on potential incentives to support her business. Spout Juice and Coffee Bar continued to trade during the restrictions and provided flexible working arrangements with Jonah so he could balance the challenge of looking after his family as well as earning an income.

“The financial support from TRACQS in the payment of staff incentives and the reimbursement of staff uniforms have gone a long way in keeping the business functioning through our first few formative years.

It has meant that I have been able to offer local residents a workplace with regular hours and the stability that is so often lacking in the hospitality industry.”

Dei – Proprietor, Sprout Juice and Coffee Bar

TRACQS continues to work closely with Jonah who is keen to kick-start a career working with youth in community services with the full support of his employer.

From the team at TRACQS, we wish the team at Sprout Juice and Coffee continued success and we look both look forward to working with Jonah towards realising his long-term career aspirations.
