At TRACQS, we’re always looking for opportunities to assist the community.

Recently TRACQS Photography Activity Supervisor Greg stumbled upon an exciting opportunity for our Community Development Program (CDP) participants at Kuranda Photography

Cheryl Creed, a fashion designer from Cairns, was advertising for a photographer to assist her in a photoshoot for her label, Murrii Quu Couture. Greg saw the advertisement and knew immediately that TRACQS Kuranda Photography would be perfect for the job.

Cheryl Creed of Murrii Quu Couture

Launching her label in 2017, Murrii Quu Couture is inspired by the golden age of Hollywood. Cheryl’s designs are also semi-sustainable as she is conscious of the amount of waste material the fashion industry produces.

Cheryl’s clothes have been a part of several prominent fashion runways including the 2018 Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane, where she was the only Australian Indigenous designer to showcase. Cheryl’s designs are also semi-sustainable as she is conscious of the amount of waste material the fashion industry produces.

Thankfully, Cheryl also felt that we were the right people for the job; and so, we worked to organise the studio, equipment and transport required for the photoshoot.

The shoot was a huge success, and we’re incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Cheryl and support her label.

We had several of our Kuranda Photography participants helping on the day, with participant Morva, being asked by Cheryl to model one of the gowns, which she gladly accepted.

Speaking to Greg, he recalls that the highlight of the shoot was being able to see Cheryl’s impact on Indigenous youth and her connection with the young models.

“The personal highlight of this collaboration for myself was to witness Cheryl’s passion and love for the next generation of Indigenous youth; it was a joy to witness.

“Cheryl is leading by example and earns the respect of those around her effortlessly,” says Greg Hillman – TRACQS Kuranda Photography Activity Supervisor

The personal highlight of this collaboration for myself was to witness Cheryl’s passion and love for the next generation of Indigenous youth; it was a joy to witness.

It was a wonderful experience and opportunity for everyone involved, most importantly our Kuranda Photography participants.

Thank you to everyone who was involved and thank you to Cheryl for trusting us to bring your vision to life.
